Why the name Blu-ray?
Posted by Stephane Dion
The name Blu-ray is derived from a blue-violet laser that is used to read and write data. The name is a combination of "Blue" (blue-violet laser) and "Ray" (optical ray). According to the Blu-ray Disc Association the spelling of "Blu-ray" is not a mistake; the character "e" was intentionally left out so the term could be registered as a trademark.
The following are incorrect use of the Blu-ray name : Blu-ray Disk, Blu-Ray, Blue-ray.

why are classic movies now come in blu-ray when at that time there was no hd camera yet...are these classics being enchanced only ?

HD has always existed in the world of 35mm (or larger format) film! In fact a single frame of film contains more pixels than what can be captured digitally with HD cameras. In other words, movies are already HD and have been from the start. They were never called High Definition hence the confusion. The transfer to Blu-ray will be pristine, no enhancement necessary.
