PowerDVD Ready For HD DVD And Blu-Ray

Posted by Stephane Dion

Logocyberlink_bluray_disc_drive_burner_p_1 CyberLink announced today that CyberLink PowerDVD has passed the testing requirements for the playing of HD DVDs. PowerDVD has also been verified for the playback of the Blu-ray Disc formats BD-ROM and BD-R/RE. Meanwhile, CyberLink PowerProducer has passed testing for the recording of video content onto BD-RE discs.

The completed HD DVD testing process, conducted by a Class A Verification Laboratory of the DVD Forum, now permits PowerDVD HD DVD to carry the HD DVD logo.

, allow PowerDVD BD Edition and PowerProducer to carry the Blu-ray Disc logo from the Blu-ray Disc License Entity.

"The confirmation of format verification for HD DVDs, ensures that PowerDVD HD DVD remains the premiere software for high- definition interactive HD DVD movie playback on the PC," said Alice H. Chang. "What's more, passing the testing requirements for the Blu- ray Disc logo is yet another major milestone for PowerDVD BD and PowerProducer."

While PowerDVD Ultra can in deed play Blu-ray movies, as long as Sony and other distributors continue to release movies that use newer versions of copy protection and things, then they had better well send that news out to companies such as Cyberlink so that the newer versions can be incorporated into patches for their software. As it stands currently, the latest version of PowerDVD BD or Ultra can not play disc 1 of the Spider-man 3 Blu-ray (which is now available in Australia) for example...

I can confirm that PowerDVD Ultra in Vista on my quad powered HTPC with HDCP all the way through cannot play back Spiderman III, which I hired from Movieguys. Titles such as Behind Enemy Lines, The Rock, Black Hawk Down are all good. Pretty bloody disappointing; I might just buy myself a HD DVD rom after this. Also had to get AnyDVD HD because behind enemy lines required a zone change; I had just changed it to play back the The Rock title that I bought, so I'm getting fed up with this.

Has anyone played Spiderman 3 Blu-ray on the LG GGW-H10N BD/HD combo drive. I've spent two days trying to get it to play.

I could get it to play using a vga cable. When I went to HDMI it would not play. Sounds like Sony changed the security settings for the disks again. I grow so tired of that, perhaps they should just keep their disks.

Ialso have been unable to get PowerDVD BD+HD Ultra 7.3 fully patched... to play any sony titles on my LG GGC-H20L drive, titles from Warner Brothers and Fox play without fault... come on Sony what are you playing at.. oh just realised they want us to buy PS3's!!!!

Hi; I have in my Gateway FX530XV with Vista Ultimate SP1, a Gateway FPD2485W monitor, an Nvidia 8600 GTS (SLI), a Toshiba SD-H802A and a Sony BWU-200S. I have tried Cyberlink PowerDVD 7 Ultra and PowerDVD 8 Ultra and all I can get from either is a black monitor, and this is after exchanging bi-weekly emails with the tech staff for over 6 months. Very recently I demanded my money back. At this time I'm trying Corel WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-Ray and I get video but no audio on either format of HD movies. Conventional DVDs play fine in either drive. Does anyone have any ideas of other software makers to try?
