Sony Shipping the BDP-S1 Blu-ray Player

Highdefdigest revealed that Sony is finally shipping its long awaited Blu-ray player. The unit, expected last summer, was delayed many times due to technical problems. In an e-mail sent to customers, Sony said:

"We are excited to announce that BDP-S1 Blu-ray Disc players will soon be shipping. We know that you have been waiting patiently for this product and strongly believe that the Blu-ray experience will be worth the wait."

Unfortunately for the Blu-ray’s early adopters, they will have to go through two firmware update to play BD-R/RE and to access interactive content on BD-Java encoded titles.

But let’s wait and see if the players are really shipped as promised.
