Blu-ray and HD DVD Cracked With WinDVD 8

"The intense effort by the fair-use community to circumvent AACS (the content protection protocol of HD DVD and Blu-Ray) has produced yet another stunning result: The AACS Device of the WinDVD 8 has been found, allowing any movie playable by it to be decrypted.

This new discovery by ATARI Vampire of the Doom9 forum is based on the previous research of two other forum members, muslix64 (who found a way to locate the Title Keys of single movies) and arnezami (who extracted the Processing Key of an unspecified software player). AACS certainly seems to be falling apart bit for bit every day now." slashdot

I’m beginning to think that all this hacking going on Blu-ray and HD DVD movies is going to give both formats a sales boost! DRMs are always a show stopper for consumers. If they feel that Blu-ray or HD DVD can be easily copied, some consumers may switch to HD players sooner than later.
I don’t think that cracking Blu-ray or HD DVD is that big of a deal of the studios or HD player manufacturers. The size of the files is so huge that piracy will be limited just because of that.
