Black Friday Post Game Analysis
With a saggy economy, many eyes were watching Black Friday to see how consumers would respond to prices cut to the bone. While sales expectations were lowered, it does appear that sales were a little stronger than expected. Apparently some retailers have traditionally sold 10% of their entire holiday sales on this one day! Initial data indicates that some 10.6 billion dollars of items got sold on that day, surpassing estimates.
AFAIK, the cheapest Blu-ray player was the Magnavox at Wal-Mart that was going for a rock bottom $128. From what I saw in my local Wal-Mart today, they must have sold well as the entire aisle of Blu-ray players looked like a horde of Huns came through as the shelves were picked clean. It's also interesting to note that at least some analysts are predicting even lower prices ahead for Blu-ray players. How does a Blu-ray for a single Franklin sound? Some are speculating that this new price point will be reached before this year's CES. At that price, they can dump the DVD players onto an end sale, because everyone will buy a Blu-ray player when we reach the sub-$100 price!
