Wal-Mart Expands Blu-ray Shelf Space

Posted by Jonas D

Walmart480x360 I don't know about you, but I definitely have been buying less CD's lately.  After all, I only converted them to mp3's, so why not save step and just buy them already processed?  At any rate, whether it's the down economy, the preference for purchasing mp3's, or just that there isn't much new music out there to purchase ( a whole separate discussion, but alas, I digress), it's no secret that CD music sales are on the downswing.  We're talking 23% down for the last month according to these folks.

What's the number one retailer in America to do?  Well, in a move that should please any card carrying Blu-ray freak, they've chosen to expand the shelf space of the Blu-ray discs.  That makes tons of sense, as the last trip to my local Wally Mart revealed 2/3rd's of the aisle devoted to Blu-ray players, and less than a third devoted to discs.  How does that make any sense when there are tons of space devoted to DVD's?  This should also help Blu-ray sales overall as they expand the offerings beyond the few discs that they previously stocked.  And remember, watch out for falling prices (I hope)!
