Blu-ray Catches On In Japan
Here in the states, Blu-ray bumps along at single digit market share. While HDTV continues to get into homes, and DVD players need to get upgraded, it's quite inevitable that Blu-ray use will rise, but it's taking time, that's for sure. However, across the Pond the Pacific Ocean, things are mighty different.
Apparently in Japan, a bastion of high tech, Blu-ray has already caught on, big time. Currently, Blu-ray recorders are already over 50% of marketshare. Unfortunately in the states, we don't even have these hi def recording devices! I guess Americans are happier paying the monthly fee to their cable company to use the DVR.
I'm not sure what Blu-ray disc recorder sales will translate directly to disc sales, unless you're talking about blank discs. Still, last time I checked, every recorder is also a player, so at the very least, this is a lot of households that can spin a Blu-ray disc. It'll be interesting to see if this ever happens in the good ol' US of A.
