This Week's Top Blu-ray Movie Announcements - 15th May

Posted by Andy Boxall

300 Bluray Let's take a look at the future Blu-ray releases we've been told about this week.

300: The Complete Experience.
Zack Snyder's glossy adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel returns to Blu-ray, this time in Digi-book packaging with a 40-page book and various new extra features including a bluescreen picture-in-picture comparison, an interactive picture-in-picture track on the making-of and some test footage.  It's out in the USA on the 21st July.

Gran Torino.
The UK gets Clint Eastwood's excellent drama on the 29th June.  The extras seem very car focused, however the Blu-ray will have an exclusive documentary called The Eastwood Way, which examines his film making process.

Hardware - Special Edition.
Optimum Releasing are giving Richard Stanley's sci-fi movie its UK premiere on the 22nd June and the disc will feature a commentary with Stanley, deleted and extended scenes and several other featurettes.  Check the link for other forthcoming Optimum releases on DVD too.

Natural Born Killers - Director's Cut.
The theatrical version is already available on Blu-ray, so this is another double dip.  It's set to be a two-disc set with a 1080p transfer and TrueHD audio, plus an introduction by Oliver Stone and a documentary entitled NBK Evolution: How Would it All Go Down Now.  This could also be another digi-book release and is out on the 25th August in the USA.

Coraline.
Only just reaching European cinemas, Henry Selick's animated tale hits US Blu-ray on the 21st July with both 2D and 3D versions on the disc!  It's going to be quite a disc in terms of extras too, with three U-Control options, sharing scenes with BD-Live, a commentary, a digital copy, 1080p transfer, DTS-HD audio and of course, four pairs of 3D glasses!

Big Trouble in Little China.
The massively popular Carpenter/Russell team-up will have both the theatrical and extended version, a commentary with the pair, deleted and extended scenes and DTS-HD audio.  It's out in the USA on the 4th August.

Warner and New Line are also preparing Freddy vs. Jason, Snakes on a Plane and the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for release on the 8th September in the USA, along with the excellent horror anthology Creepshow, which currently has no extras listed, despite the recent SE DVD having an entertaining documentary on it!

Cheap Blu-Ray Films

This movie is absolutely amazing on Blu-ray. I have this in my personal collection. The action and effects are just divine on this medium.
