Blu-ray Gets Ultimate 70th Anniversary Edition of The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz popped up for pre-order on Amazon back in March, where according to this report, early sales were very strong.  Now Warner Bros. have issued details on what their super edition of this classic movie will include, it's easy to see why!  Entitled The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition, this will be a limited, numbered set available as both a 2-disc Blu-ray and 4-disc DVD.

The movie has been remastered from the original negatives, with Warner's claiming twice the resolution of the master used for the previous DVD, plus the soundtrack will be presented in Dolby TrueHD.  The Ultimate Collector's Edition has an astonishing array of extra features, so if you're ready, let's dive in and take a look at what's new and exclusive!

• The Dreamer of Oz.  The debut of the 1990 TV biography of L. Frank Baum, the creator of Oz.
• Victor Fleming, Master Craftsman.  A feature-length documentary on the director.

• The Magic Cloak of Oz.  Debut of the complete 1914 silent film.
• The Patchwork Girl of Oz.  Another 1914 silent film.

• Behind the Curtain.  A 52-page book containing photographs and plenty of previously unpublished material.

Add in all of the previous goodies including the commentary track, the 1990 Making-of and the 2001 retrospective, and Warner really do seem to have created the definitve edition of The Wizard of Oz.  It's set for release on the 19th September in the USA at a retail cost of $84.99.
