An American Werewolf on Blu-ray!
With news that John Landis has given permission for a remake of his classic 1981 horror comedy to be filmed just becoming public, it's good to hear that the original An American Werewolf in London is getting its Blu-ray release this summer. Speaking to Bloody-Disgusting.com, Landis stated that the Blu-ray transfer 'looks amazing' and instead of hurting Rick Baker's astonishing transformation effects, the 'crisp detail actually makes Rick's stuff look even better!'
A remastered print of the movie will be showing at this year's FrightFest, which takes place at the end of August in London, so anyone attending should get an indication of how the Blu is going to look. Paul Davis' making-of documentary Beware the Moon, a highly acclaimed, all encompassing love letter to the movie, will also be screened, and it looks likely this will be included as an extra on the upcoming disc too.
An American Werewolf in London had an HD-DVD release, but the disc only included the bonus materials found on the DVD, plus we presume it didn't use the newer, remastered source. Although no release date has been announced, the remake of Chaney's The Wolf Man is due in the USA on the 6th November, so don't be surprised if it's on the shelves around this time.
