This Week's Top Blu-ray Movie Announcements - 10th July

Posted by Andy Boxall

Monsters vs Aliens In addition to the firm announcements this week, there has been one rumour in particular which makes it into our line up.  It's both a blessing and a curse, though...

Monsters vs. Aliens.
It's out on Blu-ray on the 29th September in the USA, but strangely, there will be only a 3D short film and no 3D enhancement for the movie itself.  Dreamworks say the Real3D technology used in cinemas can't be replicated at home, thus the downgrading of the print to standard 2D.

Wrong Turn 1, 2 and 3.
Wrong Turn 1 and 2 will hit Blu-ray on the 15th September in the USA, and the third installment of the horror franchise will follow on the 10th October, when all three will also be available as a box set.

Gremlins - 25th Anniversary.
Tucked away in a list of future UK Warner catalogue releases is Gremlins, with a release date of the 5th October.  The 25th Anniversary tag indicates the possibility of some great extras, so we're looking forward to more details on this one.  Also on the list are the 70th Anniversary editions of The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind for the UK on the 2nd and 16th November respectively.

Angels and Demons.
Ron Howard's adaptation of another Dan Brown book met with a similar critical reception as his first, however its fans can look forward to a UK Blu-ray release on the 14th September.  Announced extras include featurettes on writing the book and the props used in the film.

Star Trek: The Original Series - Season 2.
For the first time in HD, season 2 of Star Trek: TOS will be out in the USA on September 22nd.

The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen.
William Friedkin's The Exorcist is being rumoured as having a Blu-ray release date of the 8th September in the USA.  As you'll have noticed from the title, this is set to be the 2000 edition with a variety of alterations and additions, none of which add anything substantial, and fans will undoubtedly be hoping for the option to watch the original version too.
