Watchmen Ultimate Edition in December.
We knew it was coming, but we didn't expect to know any firm details for a while yet, so we've got a warn, fuzzy feeling inside thanks to thehdroom.com, who have shared the contents of their brand-new Watchmen Director's Cut Blu-ray disc. Rather than be excited by the prospect of watching the director's cut, a flyer inside the case is the cause of the commotion.
In December this year, Warner Bros. will release The Watchmen Ultimate Collector's Edition. This five-disc set will feature the ultimate cut of the film with Tales of the Black Freighter edited in, the Under the Hood bonus also seen on the standalone Tales disc, plus the Watchmen Motion Comics and a new commentary by Snyder and Dave Gibbons. By our reckoning, the Motion Comics will be one disc, Under the Hood another, two discs of the movie and extras, plus a digital copy.
What it doesn't mention is if we will be able to watch all three versions of the film - theatrical. director's and ultimate cut - via seamless branching, or whether this will be just the ultimate cut, forcing us to buy another two editions if we want to have the option to own them all.
So, who has decided to wait now this is confirmed for December? Or are you enough of a Watchmen fan to buy the director's cut or the Nite Owl Ship edition, then double dip in December?

According to dvdtalk, their review states the film comes with ani nsert in the packaging talking about a 5 disc version coming. They're basically telling Watchmen junkies that they just wasted their money.
Frankly, this whole director's edition and theatrical editions being region locked is ridiculous. How hard could it be to offer two cuts of the film? The alien quadrilogy offers director's and theatrical cuts of all four films. Terminatyor II extreme offers all three on the same dvd with seamless branching.

I think it's a little messed up that they have it in the box...like the other comment said...they basically just said you just wasted your money because there's a better one coming. I was about to buy the Blu-ray but I, luckily, didn't have enough money. Today I see this and I am feeling really lucky. I would've wasted 25 bucks on the movie AND would still go and buy the collector's edition when it comes out December bcuz...well i love watchmen. But now that i know the collector's edition is coming..i'll just sit here and wait til it's released. :]. any ideas on how much money this is going to cost? Sounds expensive...

Joanne,
Watchmen Ultimate Edition hasn't been announced for the UK or Ireland as yet, and to be honest, with the way the theatrical and director's cut editions have been handled, don't expect it to be, at least this side of Christmas anyway.
However, the US version is a 'region free' Blu-ray, so it will play on European Region B Blu-ray players with no problems. All you need to do is use a reputable importers to order the set from the USA. Axelmusic.com has it for around £31 and I have used them previously, although this should not be considered an endorsement.
As for a player, it's impossible to answer without a budget, however there are some great Christmas deals about on a Playstation 3, a player that does plenty more besides.
Hope this helps!
