LG's New Soundbar Blu-ray Player Spotted
For those not aware, a soundbar is a great alternative to having a room full of speakers or an easy way to avoid running cables. A bar usually contains all the speakers and an amplifier to power them, plus the kit may come with a wireless subwoofer and the option of rear speakers, however these are not always needed as the soundbar is designed to give a convincing pseudo-surround effect without the need for them.
LG have been showing off their new soundbar offering at IFA, and it is very impressive. The HLB54S (mmm, catchy) has a built-in Blu-ray player and has dual HDMI sockets, providing 1080p images and upscaled DVD without the need for any other equipment at all! Don't believe it's possible? Well, the sound bar provides 430W of power and there is a wireless subwoofer to add some punch, the unit has Wi-Fi for connecting to online services or your computer and an iPod dock for musical convenience. A sound tuned by Mark Levinson is just icing on the cake.
So there it is, a very well specified system for the minimalist install or second room. LG will be putting the HLB54S on sale in the UK from November with a price to be agreed soon. No news of a US release yet, though.

Any idea on when this will be available?
