Paranormal Activity Announced for Blu-ray
Hyped as one of the scariest movies ever made, this super low budget horror film has barely completed its theatrical run and has been announced for Blu-ray. The two disc edition will be out on the 29th December and if you're expecting the second disc to be loaded with bonus features, then you'll be sorely disappointed to learn that it merely contains a digital copy of the theatrical cut of the film.
So, that must indicate a featurette on the main disc then? No, sorry. A commentary then? Surely writer/director Oren Peli has been invited to record a track, especially when there must be plenty to say about making a film in your own home with unknown actors? No, nothing at all. What we do get is an 'unrated' version with an alternate ending not seen in theatres and the movie in 1080p with a DTS-HD soundtrack.
At this stage, it's not clear whether the 'unrated' part refers solely to the alternate ending, or if some further footage is set to be added into the movie, or even which alternate ending will be used, as there supposedly several different ones filmed. Obviously Spielberg's suggested ending is seen in cinemas now and ruins the experience completely, then there an ending with the police bursting in shown on festival prints, a throat-cutting sequence seemingly only spoken about and who knows how many more!
Additionally, Amazon.com have a Limited Collector's Edition listed which includes a film cell and an individually numbered limited edition T-shirt, but it has the DVD edition of the movie inside. Still, if you're keen enough you can just buy both and swap the discs, but be aware that a special edition is almost certain to follow next year!
