CES 2010: New Philips Blu-ray Players Add NetFlix and MKV, Shun 3D

Wow, a CES Blu-ray story without the mention of 3D!  But instead of shouting about something the majority of us won't be able to afford for a while, Philips and DivX look to have given us one of the most often requested features - DivX support with DivX Plus HD, or MKV, playback!  On their European release later in the year, the 2010 Philips players will be the only ones offering the ability to play this format.  Now that really is something to be pleased about.

There are three new players in Philips 2010 Blu-ray line-up, the BDP5110, the BDP5320 (pictured) and the BDP7320.  All three produce 1080p, 24fps images, upscale DVD, support BD-Live and for the first time on a Philips player, give Netflix support and access to their extensive library of streaming video.  An SD card slot can be used for the aforementioned DivX files along with music, pictures and AVCHD video.

Separating the BDP5320 from the BDP5110 is the inclusion of a Wi-Fi dongle, while the BDP7320 gets this plus a 1GB SD card in the box, DNLA certification and 7.1 analogue audio outputs.  The BDP5110 has been given a very reasonable retail price of $169, while the BDP5320 leaps up to $249 and the BDP7320 sits at $279.  You'll have to wait until Q2 2010 for the release of the 7320, while the other two players are due out in Q1.  European dates and prices are yet to be announced.
