CES 2010: Technicolor Announces 3D Blu-ray Movie and Samsung Collaboration
Technicolor have announced that they will not only be demonstrating their Technicolor Genuine 3D products at CES, but they will also be responsible for authoring what could be the first 3D Blu-ray film too. They have joined forces with Samsung and DreamWorks to create a total home 3D solution for 2010, comprising of Samsung hardware and their own exclusive release of DreamWorks Monsters vs. Aliens movie, seen in 3D in cinemas earlier this year.
Samsung's contribution to this alliance is on the hardware front. They have announced an incredible six new TVs - featuring LCD, LED and plasma panels - which will all be compatible with 3D media, plus the BD-C6900 we spoke about earlier today. We now know this new Samsing player will have built-in wireless, 7.1 analogue audio outputs and a load/start time of 30 seconds. Samsung look to be using the active shutter style 3D glasses for their home products.
So, to watch Technicolor's 3D Monsters vs. Aliens you'll have to buy a Samsung 3D TV, the Samsung BD-C6900 and because it doesn't appear a pair of glasses come with either product, a pair of those too. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Samsung haven't provided any further information on pricing, but we doubt very much this little lot will be classed as a bargain. Alternatively, you can buy the 2D Blu-ray of Monsters vs. Aliens for around $30 and watch it tomorrow.
