Blu-ray 'A Mess' Says Apple's Steve Jobs
We already knew he wasn't a fan, but Apple's CEO Steve Jobs has re-iterated the fact he is not the Blu-ray format's biggest supporter during a meeting at the company's head office. Speaking at a so-called Town Hall meeting, where Apple employees get together and put questions to top executives, it's reported that Steve made comments along the lines of Blu-ray software being a 'mess' and that Apple would be waiting until sales 'took off' before adopting.
Now, we say 'reported' as all this obviously took place at a confidential meeting and that neither Wired nor Macrumours name their sources personally, so we can't be sure if it was actually Steve Jobs who said this and other comments. However, it's not much of a stretch to imagine he did, as it's not exactly different from his previous view!
So, it's logical to assume that we won't be seeing Blu-ray inside a Mac - officially - during 2010, given that there are only so many refreshes the range will receive this year. Judging by the comments we've had when we talked about this subject before, a decision like this would be unlikely to please many.
Although not putting a Blu-ray in at least one Mac computer seems odd, Mr. Jobs may not be able to use the old 'not enough sales' excuse for much longer. An L.A. Times report concerning job losses at Sony Pictures, may mention that DVD and Blu-ray sales as a whole were down 13% in 2009, but looking back to the tail end of Q3 2009, Blu-ray disc sales were shown to be up 66% and sales of players had risen 112%, plus a USA Today article calls the uptake of Blu-ray, 2009's 'silver lining'.
If 3D does become the success studios are hoping it will be, Blu-ray's popularity will rise with that too, and eventually we'll see that Blu-ray drive in a MacBook. So why not just get it over with now, Steve?

I have been holding off buying a new Mac because I need Blu-Ray for burning and watching edited hd video. My old G5 is now getting 6 years old. If Macs do not come with Blu-Ray in this first quarter of the year, I will have to buy a Windows PC. I cannot hold off any longer. With Windows 7 being a better operating system (compared to Vista), this a a very realistic option.

never mind just upgrade the dvd drives to a blu ray drive .... Ohhh wait we can't apple have us by the watsits, gotta buy a new mac ;-)
Steve for the love of god allow us users some freedom to upgrade our apple gadgets without having to buy a new device.
Try marketing for usefulness rather than a 'cool' 'in' accessory for once.
