Get Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs 3D Blu-ray for Free!*

Posted by Andy Boxall

Iceage *Offer is only valid to customers who purchase a 50" Panasonic 3D TV and a 3D Blu-ray player, totaling around $3000.

Twentieth Century Fox have announced that their first 3D Blu-ray title will be the animated feature, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and it will be available from April.  According to the Wall Street Journal, no retail price has been placed on the disc yet, as it will be given away, via mail, with the purchase of every 3D Panasonic system.

This news joins the Dreamworks/Samsung announcement made at CES, where the pair said their first 3D title would be Monsters vs. Aliens, however we've heard nothing else since then, so perhaps 20th Century Fox and its vaguely amusing animated animals will beat the monsters and aliens to be the first 3D title to hit the shelves.

But this news is a thinly veiled disguise for what is the real meat of the announcement - the real world cost and benefit of being a 3D early-adopter.  Fair enough, a 50" LCD is always going to be expensive, but $3000 is a fair amount to lay down just to see Scrat chase an acorn or two!  We also wonder how many pairs of 3D glasses that set comes with, or will we need another few hundred to let our average family of 2.4 children watch the movie?

Where's my wallet?  Safely in my pocket!

Hey Panansonic, I'm a little miffed at buying your player for $600 to go with my 3D television, and you tell me I can't have 2 $30 discs to actually use on my machine because I didn't spend 3g's on the package!

Yes it is right, this is so silly, exclusive movies for certain TV's. That is just so retarded they will just kill the technology like that.
Who is going to buy a $3,000 TV just because they have a certain movie exclusively for them (EX: Ice age 3D only for Panasonic)
It is just a killer for the technology, instead just leave the titles open so that people sees there are a lot of titles when they buy a 3D TV. Customers will have more freedom and not have to wait for the next available movie for your brand.
That is just stupid.
