Mac Mini HDMI Port Suggests Blu-ray's On Its Way - But We're Not Fooled!
Here we go again. With last year's Blu-ray-iMac debacle still fresh in our minds, another rumour hits the Internet to tease Mac fans with the possibility of an HDMI port being added to a future generation of Mac Mini, a move which automatically leads one to the conclusion that a Blu-ray drive can't be that far behind.
This has all started following a report by AppleInsider, who have been informed of a Mac Mini wearing an HDMI port in place of the familiar DVI port. Still in the prototype stages, this would be the second Apple machine to include such a socket - the first being Apple TV - and can mean only one thing, that they recognise the Mac Mini's potential as a HTPC.
The logical progression to this is to at least give the option of a Blu-ray drive. As cool as the Mac Mini is, just adding HDMI and not providing a physical drive that sends HD signals through it, is to do half a job, something which Apple don't often do.
But we have learned our lesson. Steve Jobs doesn't like Blu-ray, and as there have been no changes in the market since the last time he said it, we'll sadly file this one away in the 'If Only...' drawer for now.
