Source Code Steelbook Is Actually a Stickerbook, Pictures to Prove

Sourcecodesteel
If you're a steelbook collector, then no doubt the dreaded 'stickerbook' counts as one of the world's most unforgivable crimes.  They're not all that common though, and for the unitiated the phrase stickerbook describes a steelbook case with a big sticker on the front and rear to depict the artwork, rather than the more expected printed cases.

Personally I avoid them as they can look cheap, and feel collectors should be warned the just-released Play.com Source Code exclusive steelbook is a stickerbook.  I was expecting Play's edition to be up to their previous exclusive steelbook standards, their excellent Star Trek Blu-ray being a prime example, and it was a bit disappointing to find it was a stickerbook.

The artwork's still good though, and it was available at a considerably lower price than many other steelbook editions.  Has anyone else purchased this edition and not been pleased with sticker artwork?  Would you prefer to know it's not a painted case in the future before pre-ordering?

Kevin Smith's Red State Blu-ray Out October

Redstate
Few films have stirred up as much controversy as Red State this year, most of it before the movie had even been shown to the public, and mainly thanks to director Kevin Smith's unusual move of holding an auction at Sundance where he purchased the rights himself.

The film has been billed as a horror, but one shouldn't expect it to be quite that cut-and-dried, and it stars John Goodman, Michael Parks and Melissa Leo.  The October 18th Blu-ray release follows a tour of the US and a few international locations, and comes just weeks after its first theatrical run beginning the 23rd September.

Naturally it'll be presented in 1080p, plus it will have a 7.1 DTS audio track and the following extras:

  • The Making of Red State documentary.
  • Sundance speech with and introduction by Kevin Smith.
  • Sundance ending.
  • Audio commentary with Kevin Smith.
  • Deleted scenes.
  • Poster gallery.

Kevin Smith will add an introduction to the deleted scenes and the poster gallery, which formed a key part in the promotion of the movie as each poster was auctioned off to the highest bidder, where they had exclusive rights to show it on their site for a certain amount of time.

You can see the cover art above, but there is no word on region coding just yet.

Synapse to Bring The Exterminator and Frankenhooker to Blu-ray

Exterminator Synapse are well-known for their great quality DVDs of unusual movies, and their recent move into Blu-ray seems to be continuing that trend.  Two of their forthcoming films are both rarities and their release will be welcomed by fans of sleazy B-movies everywhere.

We're talking about The Exterminator and Frankenhooker.  Starting with The Exterminator, Synapse has secured an unrated director's cut for the Blu-ray edition, which will be presented in 1080p with a 1.78:1 ratio and Mono audio.  The film will be accompanied by an audio commentary from the director and a collection of TV spots and a trailer.

Next we have Frankenhooker, a barking mad take on the classic tale of Frankenstein, but with hookers.  Naturally.  Unfortunately, there are fewer details available for Henenlotter's sleazefest, with no special features listed on Synapse's site, or any word whether it will be the full uncut version or not.

The Exterminator will be released on the 13th September, while Frankenhooker will be out on the 22nd November.  Best of all, both titles are set to be region free!

A Serbian Film Gets Unrated Limited Edition Blu-ray Release

Serbianle
Although the initial commotion surrounding this particularly unpleasant movie has died down, there are still many who haven't been able to see the unrated version, but thanks to Invincible this is all going to change in October.

The UK has already got a Blu-ray release of the movie, and a similar one is also available in the USA, however Invincible's will be quite different.  Rather than just trot out a basic edition, Invincible has announced a limited release of the movie, and Twitch has put up the teaser poster you see above.

It's difficult to tell exactly what the packaging is, but our guess is it's a digipack.  It certainly looks great and is in keeping with the movie, however there is one small point eager buyers should be aware of - this is the 'unrated' version, but it's still cut by around a minute from the original source.  The UK version was cut by nearly four minutes, so a fair amount of content will be reinstated; whether you think that's a good thing depends on your thoughts of the film!

It's up for pre-order with Invincible now for $19.95 and will be out on the 25th October.
