Bluray_movie_basic_instinctUnless you are a "Basic Insinct" unconditional fan, you will probably be disappointed with the lack of good Blu-ray movie releases this week.

Lionsgate, besides releasing the first Catherince Tramell movie, brings "Weeds: Season One" to the list of Blu-ray discs available on the market.

Sony Home Entertainment has one new Blu-ray title with "Curse of the Golden Flower". And finally, "Botti Live with Orchestra and Special Guests" has been release by Sony Music.
HD DVD fans don’t have a lot more to be excited about. Universal is the only studio releasing new titles

Blu_ray_movie_fift_element

This week is probably one of the best weeks in a long time for new Blu-ray movie releases. But in the last few weeks, studios have also announced many more titles that we should see coming to Blu-ray discs soon

Here are a few tips on what we can expect in the following months:

First, Sony announced that "Blood & Chocolate" has been delayed for two weeks. Originally announced for a release on May 29th, the title will now be released on June 12th.

On August 14th, Buena Vista Home Entertainment will release "Wild Hogs" day-and-date with the DVD release. The Blu-ray disc will come with a 1080p video with PCM 5.1 soundtrack. Blu-ray Movie: Blade Runner

Blade_runner_blu_ray

The father of science-fiction movies will make its debut on Blu-ray discs next October. The release of this twenty-five year old movie will probably be one of the most exciting releases of the year for Warner.

I'm sure that Warner will take good care of this mystic movie. Blade runner's fans will probably be watching this one many times and will scrutinize all the scenes.

No information on the specs is available at this point. The pricing information is also not known.

Elvis Presley on Blu-ray and HD DVD Discs

Elvis_blu_ray_hd_dvd

Warner will bring Elvis Presley to your favorite HD format. "Jailhouse Rock" and "Viva Las Vegas" will both be available on Blu-ray and HD DVD discs on September 18th 2007.

Warner did not release any information on the specs but the retail price should be $28.95 for both versions.

Pirates Can’t Beat Planet Earth

Blu_ray_movie_top_seller_3

According to the Amazon's "Top Sellers", this week's highly anticipated Blu-ray and HD DVD releases were not able to reach the first position of top HD movie sellers. The first HD disc to rank on Amazon's top movie sellers is the amazing BBC documentary, Planet Earth. The series is holding steady at position #8 of Amazon's DVD top sellers with the HD DVD version. The standard DVD is holding position #1 of the same list and the Blu-ray version is far behind at position #23

The second HD movie in the list is "Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man's Chest" on Blu-ray discs and it's sitting at position #10. Pirates of the "Carribean – Curse of the Black Pearl" is closely following at position #12.

"The Ultimate Matrix Collection" is the only new HD DVD movie that made Amazon's top 25 at position #22. It looks like the HD DVD fanboys were not able to make the "group buying" this week.

Pirates on Blu-ray Discs

What a great week for HD fans. After a few weeks of slow releases, this week brings good news for HD DVD and Blu-Ray fans.

Warner starts the fun with "Letters from Iwo Jima" on both formats but also brings "The Complete Matrix Trilogy" and "The Ultimate Matrix Collection" to HD DVD discs only. Blu-ray version of the Matrix box sets should be announced in the near future.

Paramount is also releasing "Freedom Writers" on both format, but the biggest news is the release of "Mission: Impossible" on your favorite format.

Dreamworks is the other studio that can't choose a favorite format and is releasing on both technologies. "Flags of our Fathers" is available now on Blu-ray and HD DVD discs.

Blu-ray gets a much anticipated exclusivity from Buena Vista. "Apocalypto", "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" are being release this week from the Disney company.

4 New Blu-ray Movies Released this Week

a Warner is taking the lead this week. And since the studio releases the same titles in HD DVD and Blu-ray at the same time, both format would have been equal if Sony didn't had "Stomp the Yard" to release today.

"Battle of th Bulge", "The Fountain" and the "The Road Warrior" are now available on your favorite HD format for Warner.

Ok, nothing to get excited about, but wait for next week! We are going to have a lot more fun with great new Blu-ray movie releases! And by the way, the score is now 187 HD DVD movies against 220 Blu-ray Movies.

Blu-Ray Movie Releases for May 8th

May 8th won't be remembered as an exciting week for new Blu-ray Movies. But the little that is released today is still better than HD DVD, who gets absolutely no new releases this week.

Sometimes we wonder how the studios are choosing the movies to be transferred to Blu-ray discs. It would be interesting to know more about the strategy behind the movie selection and the scheduling of the releases.

Sony takes the lead this week with three new releases, including two releases from Sony's catalog.

"Catch & Release" (2007), featuring Jennifer Garner, Timothy Olyphant and Juliette Lewis talks about a woman that must deal with the untimely death of her husband and the revelation of secrets he kept from her.

"Revenge" from 1990 with Kevin Costner is the story of an American pilot competing with a Mexican crime lord for the love of a rich and beautiful woman.

"Donnie Brasco" (1997), starring Al Pacino is also released on Blu-ray discs.

Lionsgate brings back the 80s smash hit, "Dirty Dancing" to the Blu-ray movie library.

Spiderman 3 on Blu-ray Disc

Spiderman_3_bluray_movie

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is offering a sneak peek of Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray exclusively at Best Buy, just prior to the film's May 4 theatrical launch.

Starting April 29, while supplies last, Best Buy customers will receive a free Blu-ray sampler disc with the purchase of any other Blu-ray software or hardware product. The disc features Spider-Man 3 trailers and clips and represents the first high-def look at this next installment of the franchise.

"Best Buy's promotion is an example of an important marketing tool that will raise consumer awareness for the Blu-ray Disc format on an ongoing basis," said David Bishop, SPHE president.

Sony has not officially confirmed yet that Spiderman 3 was going to be available on Blu-ray, but after releasing a sneak preview like this, we can be pretty sure that the Blu-ray version is going to be available day and date with the DVD in November.

This new Blu-ray movie release is one of the two new releases on Blu-ray discs this week. Lionsgate is releasing "Happily n'Ever After":
