It's been a while since we had a week full of exciting new titles! But this week, the seven new releases will certainly give Blu-ray sales another boost.
Probably the most interesting new title is "Planet Earth: The Complete Collection" from the BBC. This wonderful documentary is a HD video, so no standard film transfer here! The series is already the top HD seller on Amazon, it's released on HD DVD discs also, and it does even better than "Casino Royale".
Other movies like "The Queen", "Déjà vu", "Failure to Launch" and "Ultimate Avengers Collection" are also released. Fox is bringing "Night at the Museum" to the list of anticipated Blu-ray movies.

The PS3 is largely the reason why Blu-ray movies are enjoying this comfortable lead over HD DVD movies. Price cuts on HD DVD players have helped stopping the drop for the HD DVD camp but it seems that this is not enough so far.

According to a study released by Home Media Research, Blu-ray as sold a million Blu-ray movies so far. Although the 50GB format has been selling slowly compared to regular DVDs, the research claims that 70 percent of all HD movies sold in the first three months of the year were Blu-Ray versions; eclipsing HD DVD by more than two to one.

According to Neilsen Video Scan's sales data for high definition DVDs, Blu-ray outsold HD DVD by more than 2 to 1 for the third month in a row. Those numbers are the most precise numbers we have right now but the total number of movies sold to date is still too small to make a call on which format is the winner.
HD DVD group claims that they are going to catch up in the next few months with strong upcoming exclusive HD DVD movies. The group also said that the aggressive price cuts on HD DVD players will soon start to pay off.
"Casino Royale" is the Blu-ray movies' leader with 59 000 copies sold and its closest HD DVD rival is "The Departed" with 16 000 copies.
Another day, another chapter!

"The Dirty Dozen" and "Enter the Dragon" are released on Blu-ray Disc but have been available on HD DVD for some time. Those very old titles are certainly not going to drive the sales in the coming weeks.
For the first time in a long time, HD DVD has more new titles released in a week. Universal is taking the lead with "The Game", "The Jerk" and "Smokin' Aces". Genius is releasing "School for Scoundrels" and Weinstein is bringing "Feast" to the HD DVD library.
