Denon DVD-A1UD Delayed Until March

DVDA1UD
We had a glimpse of the Denon DVD-A1UD at CES and although no price was indicated it was stated the player would be making an appearance during February.  However, Slash Gear have done some translating from Denon's Japanese website and noted the release has now been delayed until March.  This is confirmed as the European release date on Denon's UK site too.

Designed for use with the Denon top-range AVP-A1HD processor and built around a chassis which reduces vibration, the price of this monster is looking likely to be a wallet-tightening $4200 in the US and £3300 in the UK!  For this you get a 'universal' player which in addition to playing Blu-ray movies also takes care of DVD and CD plus the ultra-high quality audio formats of SACD, DVD-A and HDCD too.  Additional features include upgradeable firmware, two HDMI sockets, 8-channel outputs with two fully balanced XLR output and a Realta processor to upscale DVD to 1080p.  It's expensive for sure, but there's no denying that Denon quality.

Denon Showcases Universal Blu-ray Player

Denon brought to CES this week its monster universal Blu-ray player known as the DVD-A1UDCI. This previously announced beast is set to debut next month, though no pricing has yet been set (think expensive).

Denon's DVD-A1UDCI is described by the manufacturer as the world's first universal Blu-ray A/V player. It earns this moniker, the company says, as it features both DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD playback. It also sports native digital output via HDMI/Denon Link or PCM conversion with full bass management.

Being that it is a Denon, the feature list is quite exhaustive. Highlights though include balanced transmission of 2-channel analog sound when combined with other Denon products, BD-Live support and a 10-bit Silicon Optix Realta chipset.

Ultimate Player, At A Ridiculous Price

I know that quality costs, and "You get what you pay for."  In the world of electronics, Denon is a pretty respected brand, and has its faithful devotees.  They have a new player, the DVD-A1UD, which is notable for not only supporting Blu-ray and DVD like many other players out there, but it also supports some less common formats.  These include DivX, SD/SDHC cards, and SACD.  Wait a sec!  Is there anyone out there that ever bought a Super Audio CD?  I significantly doubt it!

While this player may have the goods, which includes more features than you'll ever use, the seven thousand dollar price tag will make me head back to the local Wal-Mart for my needs.  This ambitious player was clearly planned to sell in better economic times.
